Job description

A specialist engineering support business operating within high-risk industrial and construction environments is seeking to appoint a Bridge Crane Inspector to support the safe operation, inspection, and compliance of overhead and bridge crane systems across major projects.

The organisation operates at the intersection of engineering assurance and site execution, providing critical inspection and technical oversight services where lifting operations and mechanical-structural integrity are essential to safe project delivery. This role is site-based and focused on ensuring that crane systems operate safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with international standards and statutory requirements.

The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting bridge cranes and associated lifting systems, ensuring structural and mechanical integrity, and verifying compliance with approved designs and operational specifications. The role requires strong technical knowledge of lifting systems, attention to detail, and the ability to operate in complex, high-risk industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities

Crane Inspection & Structural/Mechanical Integrity

  • Inspect bridge cranes and overhead crane systems on site
  • Verify structural and mechanical integrity of lifting equipment
  • Ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and international standards
  • Assess condition and performance of crane components and systems

Load Testing & Compliance Verification

  • Oversee and verify load testing of crane systems
  • Ensure correct execution of lifting operations and safety procedures
  • Identify defects, wear, and non-conformance in lifting equipment
  • Ensure compliance with standards such as ISO, OSHA, LOLER, or FEM

Technical Review & Documentation

  • Review inspection reports, maintenance records, and certification documents
  • Assess lifting plans and method statements for compliance and safety
  • Maintain accurate inspection and compliance documentation

Site Coordination & Safety Oversight

  • Liaise with contractors, engineers, and site teams on crane operations
  • Provide technical input on lifting safety and mechanical performance
  • Support resolution of structural and mechanical issues on site

Risk Management & Quality Assurance

  • Identify operational risks associated with crane and lifting systems
  • Ensure corrective actions are implemented and closed out
  • Support QA/QC processes and safety audits for lifting equipment
  • Promote safe operational practices across all crane activities

Minimum Requirements

  • BEng / BSc Civil or Mechanical Engineering
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PrEng / PE) or equivalent international registration
  • 3–5 years’ experience in structural or mechanical systems inspection
  • Strong knowledge of crane systems and lifting equipment
  • Understanding of international standards (ISO, OSHA, LOLER, FEM or equivalent)
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and lifting documentation
  • Strong analytical, fault-finding, and reporting skills
  • Proven site experience in industrial or construction environments
