Job description
A specialist engineering support business operating within high-risk construction environments is seeking to appoint a Masonry Inspector to support the delivery of masonry works across complex building projects.
The organisation provides site-based engineering and inspection services at the interface between design intent and construction execution, ensuring that structural and architectural masonry works meet strict quality, safety, and compliance standards. This role is focused on verifying workmanship, materials, and installation practices in accordance with approved designs and international standards.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection and quality assurance of masonry works, including blockwork, brickwork, and reinforced masonry systems. The role requires strong technical understanding of masonry construction methods, attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively in fast-paced site environments.
Key Responsibilities
Masonry Inspection & Compliance
- Inspect blockwork, brickwork, and reinforced masonry construction on site
- Verify compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and standards
- Ensure correct installation and workmanship across all masonry activities
- Apply international codes such as TMS, ASTM, BS, or equivalent
Quality Assurance & Control
- Identify non-conformances, defects, and workmanship issues
- Recommend and monitor corrective actions to ensure compliance
- Support QA/QC processes across masonry construction works
- Ensure consistent quality standards on site
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate inspection records and site reports
- Review Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), method statements, and quality documentation
- Compile inspection reports and communicate findings to stakeholders
Site Coordination & Technical Support
- Liaise with contractors, engineers, and site teams on quality matters
- Provide technical guidance on masonry construction practices
- Support resolution of site-based quality and compliance issues
Safety & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with site safety requirements during inspection activities
- Identify risks related to masonry construction
- Promote safe and compliant construction practices
Minimum Requirements
- Technical Diploma or relevant trade qualification
- ICC Structural Masonry Special Inspector certification
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in masonry inspection
- Strong knowledge of masonry construction methods and standards
- Understanding of international codes (TMS, ASTM, BS or equivalent)
- Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings
- Strong attention to detail and quality-focused mindset
- Proven site-based inspection experience in construction environments
