Job description
A well-established property investment and asset management company is seeking to appoint a Bookkeeper to join its head office finance team. The organisation manages multiple property-related entities and operates in a fast-paced, high-volume environment requiring strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple financial processes simultaneously. This role is ideal for a hands-on finance professional who is comfortable working across multiple entities, maintaining accurate financial records, and supporting month-end reporting, reconciliations, and compliance processes within a structured but dynamic finance environment. The successful candidate will form part of a collaborative accounting team responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information across the group.
Key Responsibilities:
Daily Financial Processing:
- Perform daily accounting and processing tasks across multiple entities
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records within the accounting system
- Support the processing of high-volume transactional data across business units
Reconciliations & Controls:
- Prepare and maintain bank reconciliations across multiple accounts
- Perform supplier reconciliations and resolve outstanding differences
- Process bad debt write-offs in line with approved policies
- Import and reconcile billing data between systems across entities
Payments & Cash Management:
- Assist with loading payments onto banking platforms
- Prepare payment packs for review and approval
- Ensure all payment documentation is accurate and properly supported
VAT & Compliance:
- Prepare VAT calculations and reconciliations
- Investigate and resolve VAT variances
- Assist with SARS queries and supporting documentation requirements
Reporting & Month-End:
- Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts
- Perform actual versus forecast comparisons and provide explanations for variances
- Support the preparation of annual audit folders and audit requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- Bookkeeping qualification (required)
- Accounting degree (advantageous)
- 3+ years’ bookkeeping or related accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and reconciliations
- Experience with property accounting systems (MDA advantageous)
- Strong MS Office skills, particularly Excel
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong analytical ability
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- Team-oriented with good communication skills
- Deadline-driven with a proactive and structured working style
