Job description
A well-established retail property and development organisation is seeking to appoint a Retail Leasing Specialist to drive leasing activity across both off-plan developments and existing shopping centres. The role focuses on securing, negotiating, and concluding lease agreements with national retailers, franchise groups, and independent tenants, while contributing to the overall tenant mix strategy and commercial performance of retail assets. The successful candidate will work closely with development, finance, and legal teams to ensure leasing decisions are commercially sound, sustainable, and aligned with long-term asset performance.
This is a deal-driven, relationship-focused role requiring strong negotiation ability, retail leasing experience, and a solid understanding of property fundamentals and tenant viability.
Key Responsibilities:
Retail Leasing & Deal Execution:
- Source, negotiate, and conclude Offers to Lease with prospective tenants
- Prepare leasing documentation including introduction letters, TDD questionnaires, Offer to Lease documents, and proposals
- Manage the full leasing cycle from initial engagement through to final signature
- Lease retail space across off-plan developments and existing shopping centres
Tenant Engagement & Relationship Management:
- Engage confidently with national, franchise, and independent retailers
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key retail tenants and stakeholders
- Manage lease renewals and complex negotiation processes where required
Due Diligence & Financial Assessment:
- Review tenant information including financial statements, business plans, credit checks, and FICA documentation
- Assess deal viability against budgets, cash flows, and long-term sustainability
- Contribute to informed leasing decisions in collaboration with internal teams
Strategic Contribution:
- Support tenant mix strategy and overall retail performance objectives
- Work closely with development, finance, and legal teams to align leasing outcomes with asset goals
- Contribute to the optimisation of retail space performance across centres
Minimum Requirements:
- 2–5 years’ experience in retail property leasing
- Proven deal-making experience across shopping centres and/or off-plan development
- Relevant qualification in Property, Business, or related field
- PPRA PDE4 completed or in progress
- Fidelity Fund Certificate advantageous
- Strong retail leasing network (national and independent retailers)
- Solid understanding of leasing structures, cash flows, and deal viability
- Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills
- Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Valid driver’s licence and own reliable vehicle
