Job description
Overview:
A well-established consulting quantity surveying practice is seeking to appoint a Professional Quantity Surveyor (PrQS) to join its Cape Town office.
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering professional quantity surveying and cost management services across a diverse portfolio of commercial, residential, retail, mixed-use, and infrastructure projects.
This role requires a registered professional with strong consulting experience, capable of independently managing projects from inception through to final account, while maintaining strong client relationships and delivering accurate, strategic cost advice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide professional quantity surveying services throughout the full project lifecycle
- Prepare feasibility estimates, cost plans, and budget reports
- Compile, manage, and review Bills of Quantities (BOQs)
- Manage tender documentation, adjudication, and recommendations
- Prepare financial reports and detailed cost analyses
- Monitor project budgets and provide proactive cost control advice
- Evaluate and negotiate variations, claims, and contractual matters
- Prepare interim valuations and final accounts
- Administer construction contracts and ensure compliance with contractual requirements
- Attend project meetings and provide commercial input to project teams
- Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and key stakeholders
- Mentor and support junior and candidate quantity surveyors
- Contribute to business development and client relationship management
Requirements:
- BSc Quantity Surveying degree or equivalent
- Registered Professional Quantity Surveyor (PrQS) with SACQSP (essential)
- 5–10 years’ post-qualification experience within a consulting QS environment
- Proven ability to manage projects independently from inception to final account
- Strong knowledge of JBCC, NEC, GCC, and FIDIC contracts
- Excellent commercial, analytical, and negotiation skills
- Strong reporting and client-facing abilities
- Valid driver’s licence and own transport
