Job description

Overview:

A well-established consulting quantity surveying practice is seeking to appoint a Professional Quantity Surveyor (PrQS) to join its Cape Town office.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering professional quantity surveying and cost management services across a diverse portfolio of commercial, residential, retail, mixed-use, and infrastructure projects.

This role requires a registered professional with strong consulting experience, capable of independently managing projects from inception through to final account, while maintaining strong client relationships and delivering accurate, strategic cost advice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional quantity surveying services throughout the full project lifecycle
  • Prepare feasibility estimates, cost plans, and budget reports
  • Compile, manage, and review Bills of Quantities (BOQs)
  • Manage tender documentation, adjudication, and recommendations
  • Prepare financial reports and detailed cost analyses
  • Monitor project budgets and provide proactive cost control advice
  • Evaluate and negotiate variations, claims, and contractual matters
  • Prepare interim valuations and final accounts
  • Administer construction contracts and ensure compliance with contractual requirements
  • Attend project meetings and provide commercial input to project teams
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and key stakeholders
  • Mentor and support junior and candidate quantity surveyors
  • Contribute to business development and client relationship management

Requirements:

  • BSc Quantity Surveying degree or equivalent
  • Registered Professional Quantity Surveyor (PrQS) with SACQSP (essential)
  • 5–10 years’ post-qualification experience within a consulting QS environment
  • Proven ability to manage projects independently from inception to final account
  • Strong knowledge of JBCC, NEC, GCC, and FIDIC contracts
  • Excellent commercial, analytical, and negotiation skills
  • Strong reporting and client-facing abilities
  • Valid driver’s licence and own transport
