Job description
A well-established property investment and asset management organisation based in Pretoria is seeking to appoint an Accountant to join its finance team. The business operates across a diversified portfolio of property assets and listed funds, requiring strong technical accounting capability, attention to detail, and the ability to operate within a structured, high-performance reporting environment. The role is responsible for full monthly and annual accounting functions, financial reporting, statutory compliance, and supporting group-level financial management across multiple entities and property portfolios. This position requires strong IFRS knowledge and the ability to manage complex reconciliations, reporting cycles, and audit readiness within a property-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Accounting & Reporting:
- Prepare monthly and annual accounting journals including depreciation, payroll, investment, lease smoothing, interest, fair value adjustments, provisions, and general journals
- Maintain asset registers including tax and accounting depreciation schedules
- Ensure all income is accurately recorded and reconciled across entities
- Prepare monthly management reports for internal stakeholders and listed funds
- Review trial balances and general ledgers to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Assist with year-end financial close and finalisation processes
Debtors, Creditors & Reconciliations:
- Manage and reconcile intercompany debtor, creditor, and loan accounts
- Monitor and follow up on outstanding debtor balances and escalate where necessary
- Ensure supplier invoices are complete and accurately reflected in project payment schedules
- Perform deposit and supplier reconciliations and resolve variances
- Review and reconcile supplier accounts for accuracy and completeness
Tax, Compliance & Audit:
- Calculate and prepare VAT, provisional tax, and income tax returns
- Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with IFRS standards
- Compile annual financial statements using Caseware
- Ensure audit readiness and support external audit processes
- Update insurance records for newly acquired assets
Cash Flow & Reporting:
- Prepare cash flow forecasts for group companies and property portfolios
- Assist with monthly performance reporting and financial analysis
- Perform ad hoc reconciliations and financial investigations as required
Minimum Requirements:
- BCom Accounting degree with completed SAICA articles (non-negotiable)
- 2+ years’ commercial accounting experience outside of audit/accounting firms
- Strong Caseware experience (non-negotiable)
- Property industry experience advantageous
- MDA system experience advantageous
- Strong understanding of IFRS and financial reporting standards
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced reporting environment
