Job description
A well-established construction contractor operating across building and civil engineering projects is seeking to appoint an Estimator to join its commercial and pre-contract team.
The organisation undertakes a diverse range of construction projects, including commercial developments, residential housing, industrial facilities, and civil infrastructure. It is recognised for its strong commercial capability, practical project delivery approach, and accurate cost planning across all stages of the project lifecycle.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the business with accurate cost estimating, pricing support, and commercial input across both prospective and live projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates and pricing models for construction projects
- Assist with the development of budgets, cost plans, and preliminary estimates
- Measure quantities from drawings and project documentation
- Compile and analyse subcontractor and supplier quotations
- Support the preparation of pricing schedules and commercial breakdowns
- Assist in the evaluation of project costs and identification of cost risks
- Maintain and update internal cost databases, rates, and pricing information
- Provide commercial input during project planning and feasibility stages
- Liaise with quantity surveyors, engineers, and project teams on cost matters
- Assist with value engineering and cost optimisation initiatives
- Support handover of cost information to project delivery teams
Minimum Requirements:
- BSc / BSc (Hons) Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or equivalent
- 2–6 years’ experience in estimating or construction cost control
- Strong understanding of building and civil construction methods and materials
- Experience in measurement and cost compilation from drawings
- Strong numerical and analytical ability
- Proficiency in MS Excel and estimating systems (advantageous)
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet deadlines
